Ever since Google started developing it’s open source browser, the Chrome, internet users have been constantly waiting for it’s stable version to come up. Since the beta is a little buggy. Well “little” is an understatement, man, those shock wave plugin fails and sudden deaths coming up with “sorry for the inconvenience” thing made me bang my head. Logging out of yahoo made the idiot download webpages. Sick man!!! Shifting tofirefox was a better idea. Maybe your experience was not as rough though. Maybe my OS was a little corrupt. Despite the bugs, chrome always got me hooked with it’s cool extensions and fast browsing. But the “buggy” tag with it has always left it’s users wanting something more stable.
So here is the official news coming straight from google’s desk. Chrome is finally out with it’s new version 9 in the stable stream. The new version incorporates stable features as well as latest in web technology, the WebGL. Managed by the non-profit Khronos Group, WebGL allows 3D graphic interface to be available straight at the browser without any software required to be installed by the user. The concept may be taken as the next big step in making everything online just like the Office 2.0. Technically speaking, WebGL is based on OpenGL ES 2.0 and provides a programmable 3D interface. Check this cool feature BodyBrowser. This may just bring out the possibility of playing the latest game in Halo series or the AOE online from a Pentium 4 low end PC!!!
The google instant is another cool yet sometimes annoying feature that automatically starts loading a webpage as soon as you start typing it in the URL address bar. If it is supported by your default search engine, like google itself, searching become easy and quick. The thing that annoys is that the page reloads itself if you press enter after typing the URL, although it has already been loaded. It’s my habit though, can’t help it.
Just like Apple has iTunes to purchase stuff for your iphone, google has a webstore to buy apps or try the free ones for chrome. The store makes chrome apps, themes, extensions available all at one place. Although developers may charge for their work, if it’s becomes hugely popular and downloaded. The version 9 adds a webstore link in the new tab page with two apps already flashing. But they vanish if you don’t use them.
Chrome credit’s Reddit’s gamer community for discovering a critical audio bug while playing ‘Z-type’ game. Aki Helin of the Oulu University Secure Programming Group (OUSPG), who has been a security contributor to Chrome before, found both high severity bugs and received $2,000 from Google, $1,000 for each flaw. He discovered a ‘use-after-free memory’ error in image loading and a crash in the PDF event handler related to printing. Cheers to all of them!!!
